On 13th October 2020, the National Philately Day 2020 was celebrated throughout the country. The day also marks the collection, appreciation and research activities on stamps and other philatelic products.

India Post has commenced celebration of the National Postal Week from 9th October to 15th October 2020. In a bid to create awareness about the role and importance of postal sector in socio-economic development and the impact ‘post’ leaves on the lives of people, India Post has decided to launch the ‘Know Your Beat Postman’ initiative.
As part of National Philately Day 2020, India Post (Mumbai) launched a ‘Stamped Mask’ 13th October. These are the masks, with images of postage stamps imprinted on them.
Postal Stamps in India
Sir Bartel Frere, the commissioner of the Sindh, introduced the stamps, then known as ‘Scinde Dawk’ in 1852 but the stamps were withdrawn in October 1854, after the introduction of regular Indian postage stamps.
The first stamp was issued in India by the Sindh Dak (1854).
National Philatelic Museum
The National Philatelic Museum of India was inaugurated in 1968, in New Delhi. The museum attempts to showcase the great Indian panorama as presented through postage stamps. It is located on the ground floor of Dak Bhawan since 2011. All Commemorative Postage Stamps issued by Department of Post since independence in 1947 are displayed in chronological order in the Museum. More details….
